Extract from Radar in today’s SMH - In God we trust:
Nineteen-year-old Kurt Smith goes to Avoca [sic] Evangelical Church on the Central Coast and is studying pharmacy at the University of Sydney. Far from being a phase, Smith’s relationship with God is about as old as he is, although it wasn’t until age 16 that his passion for surfing took a back seat and he made a “real commitment”.
“It changes your perspective,” Smith says. “Surfing’s a very self-centred, individualistic sport. In itself, it can become a religion. But it’s like any pursuit on earth - in light of death it means nothing; here today and then gone tomorrow.”
