Sun August 19, 2007
On Friday night I announced a poetry competition. Here’s the GO. Write a poem centred on the Cross of Jesus. Send it to ccecyouth@gmail.com or you can leave it in the comments on this post. Any form of poetry from Haiku to Ballad. The poem judged to most helpfully centre on the Cross will receive a copy of C.J. Mahaney’s The Cross-Centered Life.
Having a go at this has really made me appreciate
hayesy | Wed August 22, 2007 | 7:38 pmHaving a go at this has really made me appreciate hymn writers!
They managed to distill incredibly massive, often complex, truths into lines of such simplicity that, when you sing it, it captures exactly how you feel and leaves you with gut-wrenching emotion! And they did all that in the ballad meter, and even made them rhyme.
Wow.
Every time I try to write something, my head becomes filled with great lines from hymns already written.
Can’t we just say no one will ever top “When I Survey The Wondrous Cross” and leave it at that?
