The Phat Movie Review by Jono McKeown

Mon May 5, 2008

.

“Five stars….I simply have not seen a movie this good in years”  (SMH)

“An almost perfect film, flawless, brilliant and altogether marvellous” (Rollin Stone)

“This movie blew my mind. Better than Grand theft Auto IV” (Xbox 360 Magazine)

“Phat 08 video was like totally sweet. Also this magazine that I write for is absolutely awful” (Dolly Magazine)

“Yeah it will be ok I guess” (Zac Masters)

Critics are calling it a master piece.

This years Phat video is set to storm into youth group and church this May.

The hype surrounding this years film is unparalleled and believe me when I say it will not disappoint.

Jackie Young’s and Ricky Warner’s cinematography is simply superb. Never before have I seen the action captured from so many angles with such artistic integrity. Sweeping panoramic shots of breath taking battles is only the beginning. Their work shows a dedication and integrity towards good old fashion action sequences as seen the matrix and the earlier John Woo movies.

Meanwhile stills captured by Stephen Sutton and Andrew Hayes artfully freeze in time and immortalise all the great moments from Phat including: When That kid hit another kid with pool noodle, and also when that kid tried to hit another kid with a pool noodle, but missed!

Don’t for a moment think that this is just another action film. The makers were careful to develop characters well, with careful attention paid to all aspects of Phat, including; eating food, and bible talks, free time and other stuff.

Special mention needs to be giving to Josh Prosser whose dedication to this film is unquestionable. There has been much talk of late that Josh is beginning to become a bit typecast. Lots of people are saying all he ever really does it just stand there making a peace sign. But Josh really has stepped up in Phat 08 and is anything but typecast.

Look out for such brilliant moments as when he is lying down making a peace sign, hugging someone making a peace sign, and of course his crowning moment in this already perfect role: standing slightly to the left, whilst looking to the right making a peace sign.

Writer Daniel Godden has once again created a master piece story line, which eclipses his previous work in other Phat videos such as under water fairies and Samurai. It was a tough decision whether to go with Morgan freeman or Carlie Thitchener for the narration of this year’s story line, but in the end the decision was finalised when Morgan Freeman kept on getting his lines wrong and boring everyone with his soothing and whimsical narrator voice. Carlie’s narration brings a violent passion to the already turbulent story line, which is just one of the many reasons why Phat 08 the movie will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Director Jackson Stace worked tirelessly with Producer Jackie Young to put together their best and only work to date. Optimists are calling it their best work ever, while pessimists are also pointing out that is their poorest performance to date.

To top of an already perfect combination of film elements the soundtrack to Phat 08 absolutely rocks. Linkin Park’s “no more sorrow” was produced specially for Phat 08 and it really pays off. Never before has a song captured the mood of Phat so perfectly.

Don’t miss Phat 08 the movie this May at youth group and church. Also be sure to pick up the DVD realise of Phat 08 and check out the bonus features and never before seen behind the scenes footage.

In Short Phat 08 is a must see film which will not disappoint.
